Chieftains
The photos below of the BHS Chieftain mascot adorn the Bellevue East High School and were taken during the 45-Year Reunion High School tour. The Chieftain top-center is the symbol of the 50-Year Reunion. Some will recall the Chieftain top-left as the symbol of the 45-Year Reunion.
This link to an Omaha World Herald story from October 2015, says, "... Bellevue Public Schools administrators have banned the use of “war paint,” headdresses, feathers, spears and tomahawks to avoid offending Native Americans."
The photo of the BHS cheer leader to the right is from page 7 of the 1967 Yearbook. Such dress is no longer appropriate.
